Fort Omaha is very important to local history.  It has been around since the early frontier days, and continues to serve important needs today.

Fort Omaha is where the Trial of Standing Bear took place in 1879, where Native Americans acquired (by law) the rights of white settlers.  General George Crook was the commanding officer at the time.  The General Crook Home is an attraction also.

Fort Omaha is the location of the Fort Omaha Guard House Historic Marker, the Shiverick Gate Historic Marker, and the Standing Bear Historic Marker.

Fort Omaha continues to serve the community because most of it is being used by Metropolitan Community College.
